University of Vermont Medical Center

University of Vermont Medical Center is a Burlington, Vermont-based Academic medical center affiliated with the University of Vermont and the Larner College of Medicine. The medical center is a Level I trauma center and a major provider of Health care services in Vermont and northern New York. It is also a teaching hospital, providing training for Medical students and residents from the Larner College of Medicine and other institutions, including the University of Vermont College of Nursing and the University of Vermont College of Health Sciences. The medical center is a member of the University HealthSystem Consortium and is accredited by the Joint Commission.

● History

The University of Vermont Medical Center has its roots in the Mary Fletcher Hospital, which was founded in 1879 by Mary Fletcher and Bishop John Henry Hopkins. Over the years, the hospital has undergone several mergers and expansions, including the merger with the Fanny Allen Hospital in 1971 and the formation of the Fletcher Allen Health Care system in 1995. In 2014, the medical center was renamed the University of Vermont Medical Center to reflect its affiliation with the University of Vermont and the Larner College of Medicine. The medical center has a long history of providing care to patients from Vermont, New Hampshire, New York, and other parts of New England, including patients from Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center and Massachusetts General Hospital.

The University of Vermont Medical Center is located on a 128-acre campus in Burlington, Vermont, with additional facilities in South Burlington, Vermont and other locations throughout Chittenden County, Vermont.
