Francis E. Warren Air Force Base

Russell, a Union Army general who fought in the American Civil War alongside Ulysses S. Grant and William Tecumseh Sherman. The post was later renamed Fort Francis E. Warren in 1930, in honor of the former Governor of Wyoming and United States Senator, who had also served in the Spanish-American War under the command of Nelson A. Miles. During World War II, the base was used as a training facility for B-17 Flying Fortress and B-24 Liberator bomber crews, who would go on to participate in notable battles such as the Battle of Britain and the Doolittle Raid, led by James H.
