Merger and legacy

In 1986, Onondaga County Savings Bank merged with the Society for Savings of Cleveland, which was subsequently acquired by KeyCorp of Albany. This merger was part of a broader trend of consolidation in the American banking industry following the deregulation of interstate banking. The bank's historic headquarters on Clinton Square continued to operate as a major branch for the successor institution, KeyBank. The Onondaga County Savings Bank name disappeared, but its architectural legacy endured through the preservation of its iconic building.
