Early Human settlers, known as the Naboo, clashed with the native Gungans before establishing separate societies. The planet rose to galactic significance during the Invasion of Naboo, a blockade and ground assault orchestrated by the Trade Federation under the secret influence of Darth Sidious. This crisis propelled Queen Amidala to plead before the Galactic Senate and, with the aid of the Gungan Grand Army and Jedi Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobi, liberate her world. Decades later, during the Clone Wars, Naboo was again a battleground in the Battle of Mon Cala and faced a political crisis with the Blue Shadow Virus. Following the rise of the Galactic Empire, it endured occupation but later became a founding member of the New Republic.

Government and politics

Naboo is a constitutional monarchy, with an elected monarch, often titled Queen or King, serving as the head of state and government from the capital Theed Palace. The Naboo Royal Advisory Council assists the ruler, while planetary representation in the Galactic Senate was historically held by figures such as Padmé Amidala, Jar Jar Binks, and later Leia Organa. A unique aspect of its political structure is the formal separation and subsequent treaty between the Naboo Human government and the Gungan society, led by a Boss like Boss Nass, which maintains its own governing body and military. The planet is home to two primary sentient species: the Humans of the surface, often called the Naboo, and the amphibious Gungans, who dwell in underwater cities like Otoh Gunga. Gungan society is divided into distinct tribes such as the Ankura and Otolla. Naboo's ecosystems also support a wide array of fauna, including the domesticated fambaas, the predatory shaak, and aquatic creatures like the opee sea killer and sando aqua monster. The Gungan Grand Army utilizes native animals like kaadu as mounts in their military forces.
