Galactic Empire. The Galactic Empire is a fictional galactic superstate and autocracy that serves as the primary antagonistic force in much of the Star Wars franchise. Established in the wake of the Clone Wars by the Sith Lord Sheev Palpatine, it replaced the Galactic Republic through the proclamation of the New Order. The Empire's reign, characterized by humanocentric policies, brutal military enforcement, and the suppression of Jedi and dissent, spanned over two decades until its defeat at the Battle of Endor.
