Michele Anne Tafoya was born on December 17, 1964, in Manhattan, Kansas. She grew up in Manhattan and later Boulder, Colorado, where she attended Fairview High School and was an accomplished athlete in tennis and basketball. She pursued higher education at the University of California, Berkeley, graduating with a degree in mass communications. Tafoya later earned a master's degree in broadcast journalism from the University of Southern California's renowned Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism.

Broadcasting career

Tafoya began her professional broadcasting career in the late 1980s at KYMA-TV in Yuma, Arizona, as a news reporter and anchor. She transitioned to sports reporting with roles at WCCB in Charlotte and WCCO-TV in Minneapolis.
