University of Swat

University of Swat is a public research university located in Mingora, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan, near the Swat River. The university was established in 2010 by the Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa with the aim of providing quality higher education to the people of Swat Valley and surrounding areas, in collaboration with Kohat University of Science and Technology, Abdul Wali Khan University Mardan, and University of Peshawar. The university has been recognized by the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan and is a member of the Association of Commonwealth Universities and Association of Universities of Asia and the Pacific. The university has also been accredited by the National Accreditation Council for Teachers Education and National Business Education Accreditation Council.

● History

The history of the University of Swat dates back to 2010 when it was established by the Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa through an act of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly, with the support of World Bank, Asian Development Bank, and United States Agency for International Development. The university started its academic activities in 2011 with the appointment of its first vice-chancellor by the Governor of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, in consultation with the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Pakistan Academy of Sciences. The university has since then grown rapidly and has become one of the leading universities in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, with collaborations with Quaid-i-Azam University, International Islamic University, Islamabad, and National University of Sciences and Technology.

The University of Swat offers a wide range of academic programs at the undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate levels, including Bachelor of Science in physics, chemistry, and biology, as well as Master of Arts in English literature, Urdu literature, and history, in affiliation with University of Cambridge, University of Oxford, and University of California, Berkeley. The university has a strong focus on research and has established research centers in collaboration with Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission, National Centre for Physics, and International Centre for Theoretical Physics. The university also has a hostel facility for its students, with separate hostels for male and female students, managed by Pakistan Housing Authority and Capital Development Authority. The university has a strong commitment to sustainability and has implemented various initiatives to reduce its carbon footprint, in collaboration with World Wildlife Fund, International Union for Conservation of Nature, and United Nations Environment Programme.

The University of Swat has a strong research focus and has established research centers in various fields, including physics, chemistry, and biology, in collaboration with European Organization for Nuclear Research, National Aeronautics and Space Administration, and European Space Agency. The university has a strong commitment to innovation and has established an incubation center to support startups and entrepreneurs, with funding from Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Ford Foundation, and Rockefeller Foundation.
