Geography

History

The area that is now Lynn, Massachusetts was first settled in 1629 by English colonists, including Roger Conant and Thomas Dudley. The city was officially incorporated in 1631 as Saugus, but was later renamed Lynn, Massachusetts in 1637. During the American Revolution, the city was a major center for shipbuilding and textile manufacturing, with companies like General Electric and United Shoe Machinery Corporation playing important roles.
