Georgia High School Association

Georgia High School Association is a voluntary non-profit organization that oversees high school athletics and activities in the state of Georgia, working closely with Georgia Department of Education, National Federation of State High School Associations, and National Collegiate Athletic Association. ● Organization

The Georgia High School Association is headquartered in Thomson, Georgia, and is governed by a board of directors composed of high school administrators and coaches from across the state, including representatives from Cobb County School District and Gwinnett County Public Schools. The organization is divided into several regions, each of which is responsible for overseeing high school athletics and activities in a specific area of the state, such as Region 1-AAAAAA and Region 8-AAAAA. ● Member Schools

The Georgia High School Association also has a number of associate member schools, which are middle schools and junior high schools that participate in junior varsity and middle school athletics, including Atlanta International School and The Westminster Schools. Many of these schools are also members of Georgia Independent School Association and Southern Preparatory Conference.

● Sports and Activities

The Georgia High School Association sanctions a number of sports and activities, including football, basketball, baseball, softball, volleyball, wrestling, track and field, and cross country, which are also supported by National Federation of State High School Associations and United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. The organization also oversees cheerleading, dance, and music competitions, as well as academic events such as debate and quiz bowl, in partnership with National Forensic League and National Academic Quiz Tournaments. The Georgia High School Association presents a number of championships and awards to high school athletes and teams, including state championships in each sport, as well as all-state and all-region honors, which are also recognized by National High School Coaches Association and MaxPreps.
