Geography

History

The history of Aptos dates back to the Ohlone Native American tribe, who inhabited the area for thousands of years, similar to the Miwok and Maidu tribes in other parts of California. The area was later settled by Spanish missionaries, including Junípero Serra, who founded the Mission San Carlos Borroméo de Carmelo in nearby Carmel-by-the-Sea.
