Yuzhong District

Yuzhong District is a district of Chongqing Municipality, China. Located on the southern bank of the Yangtze River, it is one of the three main districts of Chongqing, along with Yubei District and Nanan District. Yuzhong District is a significant cultural and economic center, known for its rich history and stunning natural scenery. The district has a total area of approximately 219 square kilometers and a population of around 630,000 people.

Geography

Yuzhong District is situated in the southwest of Chongqing Municipality, on the southern bank of the Yangtze River. The district is surrounded by Jiefangbei to the east, Wansheng Stone Forest to the south, and Wuling Mountain to the west. The terrain of Yuzhong District is characterized by mountains, hills, and valleys, with an average elevation of 300-500 meters above sea level. The climate is subtropical monsoon, with four distinct seasons and abundant rainfall throughout the year.

History

Yuzhong District has a long and rich history dating back to the Han Dynasty (206 BCE - 220 CE), when it was an important center for the Ba State. During the Tang Dynasty (618-907 CE), the district was a major commercial and cultural hub, known for its silk and tea production. In the Qing Dynasty (1644-1912 CE), Yuzhong District was a key location for the Taiping Rebellion. In 1994, Yuzhong District was established as a district of Chongqing Municipality.

Yuzhong District is divided into 9 subdistricts and 2 townships, with a total of 121 community committees and 20 village committees. The district government is located in Jiefangbei, which is also the commercial and financial center of the district. The district is governed by the Chongqing Municipal People's Government, and has a close relationship with other districts and counties in Chongqing, such as Nanan District and Jiangjin District.

Economy
