Ty Law

Ty Law is a former American football cornerback who played 15 seasons in the National Football League (NFL), primarily with the New England Patriots. Renowned for his physical, press-coverage style and playmaking ability, he was a cornerstone of the Patriots' early dynasty, winning three Super Bowl championships. Law was selected to five Pro Bowls, earned two First-team All-Pro honors, and was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2019.

Early life and college career

Law was born and raised in Aliquippa, Pennsylvania, a town known for producing football talent like Mike Ditka and Tony Dorsett. He excelled in football and track at Aliquippa High School before accepting a scholarship to the University of Michigan. Playing for the Wolverines under head coach Gary Moeller, Law was a standout defensive back and return specialist. He was a key contributor to Michigan's undefeated 1992 season and a victory in the 1993 Rose Bowl over the Washington Huskies, earning All-Big Ten Conference honors his final year.

Professional career

Selected 23rd overall by the New England Patriots in the 1995 NFL Draft, Law quickly became a defensive leader. His iconic 47-yard interception return for a touchdown against the St. Louis Rams in Super Bowl XXXVI was a pivotal play in the Patriots' first championship win. Under coach Bill Belichick, Law's physicality at the line of scrimmage was instrumental in the Patriots' defensive schemes, leading to further titles in Super Bowl XXXVIII and Super Bowl XXXIX. After his release in 2005, he played for the New York Jets, leading the NFL in interceptions, then for the Kansas City Chiefs, making another Pro Bowl, and briefly for the Denver Broncos before retiring.

Over his 15-year career, Law recorded 53 regular-season interceptions, returning seven for touchdowns, along with 838 tackles. He added five interceptions in 17 postseason games, including two in the 2003 AFC Championship Game against the Indianapolis Colts. Law is the cousin of former NFL wide receiver Bam Childress. Following his playing career, he has been involved in various business ventures and philanthropic efforts, often focusing on his hometown of Aliquippa, Pennsylvania.
