Taube Family Tennis Center

Taube Family Tennis Center is a premier collegiate tennis facility located on the campus of Stanford University in Stanford, California. Opened in 1997, it serves as the home venue for the Stanford Cardinal men's and women's tennis teams, which have won numerous NCAA Division I national championships. The center is named for its principal donors, Tad Taube and his family, prominent philanthropists and supporters of Stanford University.

History

The facility was constructed to replace the aging Stanford Tennis Stadium, which had hosted the NCAA Tennis Championships and events like the Davis Cup since the 1930s. Its development was part of a broader initiative to enhance athletic facilities at Stanford University, supported by a significant gift from Tad Taube and his family. The complex includes the Arrillaga Family Sports Center, which houses locker rooms, team meeting spaces, and training facilities shared with other Stanford Cardinal athletic programs. The courts are maintained to professional tournament standards, utilizing a DecoTurf surface similar to that used at the US Open.

As a hub for collegiate tennis, the center annually hosts the ITA Kick-Off Weekend and the Pac-12 Conference Men's and Women's Tennis Championships. It has been a frequent site for NCAA Division I Tennis Championship regional rounds, bringing top programs like UCLA Bruins, USC Trojans, and Florida Gators to campus. The facility has also staged professional events, including tournaments on the ATP Challenger Tour and the WTA 125K series, helping develop future stars. Notable past exhibitions have featured legends such as John McEnroe, Andre Agassi, and Martina Navratilova.

Management and operations

The center is owned and operated by Stanford University, under the direct supervision of the Stanford University Department of Athletics. Day-to-day management falls to the staff of Stanford Cardinal tennis, led by the directors of tennis and head coaches. Scheduling and maintenance are coordinated with Pac-12 Conference officials and the Intercollegiate Tennis Association for national events.
