Southeast University

Southeast University is a major public research university located in Nanjing, Jiangsu province, China. It is a member of the elite Project 985, Project 211, and the national Double First Class University Plan. History

The university traces its origins to 1902 with the founding of the Sanjiang Normal College, an institution established during the late Qing dynasty under the advocacy of figures like Zhang Zhidong. It was later renamed Liangjiang Normal College and subsequently reorganized in 1921 into National Southeastern University, one of the earliest national modern universities in China. In 1928, it was renamed National Central University, becoming a leading comprehensive institution during the Republican era. After the founding of the People's Republic of China, it was restructured, with its engineering college forming the core of the present institution, renamed Nanjing Institute of Technology in 1952. The current name was adopted in 1988, reflecting its historical legacy and geographical significance in the Yangtze River Delta region.
