Salem Football Club is a professional football club based in Salem, Tamil Nadu, India. Founded in 2020, the club competes in the I-League 2, the third tier of the Indian football league system. Owned by businessman R. G. Udhayakumar, the club aims to develop local talent and establish a strong presence in Tamil Nadu football.

History

The club was established in 2020 during a period of expansion for lower-tier Indian football. It gained direct entry into the I-League 2 for the 2022–23 season, marking its professional debut. In its inaugural campaign, the team, coached by S. S. Sathish Kumar, finished in a respectable mid-table position. The club's philosophy emphasizes scouting and nurturing young players from the Salem district and surrounding regions, aiming to follow a model similar to other successful Tamil Nadu-based clubs like Chennaiyin FC and Indian Overseas Bank SRC. The 2023–24 I-League 2 season saw further consolidation, with the team challenging for promotion spots before ultimately finishing fifth in the final standings.

Salem FC plays its home matches at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Coimbatore.
