Early life and education

Milena Markovna Kunis was born in Chernivtsi, then part of the Ukrainian SSR within the Soviet Union, to a Jewish family. Her parents, Mark and Elvira Kunis, worked as mechanical engineers and decided to move the family to the United States in 1991, when she was seven years old, settling in Los Angeles. She attended Hazelwood Elementary School and later Bancroft Middle School in Hollywood, but her primary focus shifted to acting. She studied at the Beverly Hills Studio with acting coach Cynthia Szigeti and briefly attended Fairfax High School before leaving to pursue her career full-time, ultimately earning her high school diploma through a correspondence course.
