Throughout the 1970s and 1980s, Cargolux expanded its fleet with Boeing 747-200 aircraft, becoming an early European adopter of the jumbo jet for cargo. Fleet

As of 2023, Cargolux operates a homogeneous fleet of 30 Boeing 747 freighters, renowned for its nose-loading capability and long-range performance. The core of the fleet consists of sixteen Boeing 747-8 Freighter aircraft, for which the airline was a launch customer, and fourteen Boeing 747-400 Freighter aircraft. This standardized fleet strategy, managed under the Cargolux Group, simplifies maintenance and crew training. The aircraft are maintained to high standards at the company's technical base in Luxembourg and through agreements with MRO providers globally. The airline also holds orders for the future Boeing 777-8 Freighter, positioning it for the next generation of air cargo operations.

Cargolux is structured under the holding company Cargolux Group, with its main operating entity being Cargolux Airlines International S.A. Its shareholding is split between the Luxembourg state (35.1%), Henan Civil Aviation Development & Investment Company (35%), Saudia (10%), and other private investors. The company is led by President and CEO Richard Forson and is governed by a board of directors representing its major shareholders. It places a strong emphasis on corporate social responsibility, with initiatives in sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) research, carbon offset programs, and community engagement in Luxembourg.
