Brother Rice High School (Michigan)

Brother Rice High School (Michigan) is a private, all-male Roman Catholic college preparatory high school located in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. Founded in 1960 by the Congregation of Christian Brothers, the school is named for Edmund Ignatius Rice, the founder of the Christian Brothers. It is a member of the Catholic High School League and competes athletically within the MHSAA.

History

The school was established in 1960 to serve the growing Catholic population in the northern suburbs of Detroit. Its founding was spearheaded by the Congregation of Christian Brothers, an order dedicated to education, and it was part of a broader expansion of Catholic secondary education in the Archdiocese of Detroit. The institution was named in honor of Edmund Ignatius Rice, the Irish merchant and philanthropist who founded the Christian Brothers in Waterford. Throughout the 1960s and 1970s, the school expanded its academic programs and athletic facilities, solidifying its reputation. A significant campus expansion occurred in the early 21st century with the addition of the Brother John D. Page Student Life Center, named for a longtime president.
