USS Avenger (MCM-1)

USS Avenger (MCM-1) is a United States Navy Avenger-class mine countermeasures ship built by Litton Industries and Ingalls Shipbuilding. The ship was commissioned on September 12, 1987, and is homeported at Naval Base San Diego in California. The USS Avenger is part of Mine Countermeasures Squadron 3 and has participated in several operations, including Operation Desert Storm and Operation Enduring Freedom, alongside other ships such as the USS Tripoli (LPH-10) and the USS Kitty Hawk (CV-63).

The USS Avenger was laid down on June 20, 1983, at Ingalls Shipbuilding in Pascagoula, Mississippi, and launched on June 15, 1985. The ship was commissioned on September 12, 1987, with Commander Michael T. Brown as its first commanding officer. The USS Avenger is named after the Avenger-class escort carrier USS Avenger (CVE-1), which served during World War II and was sunk by the German submarine U-155 on November 15, 1942.
