Prince Edward, Duke of Windsor was a member of the British royal family and the former King Edward VIII of the United Kingdom. He was the eldest son of King George V and Mary of Teck, and the older brother of King George VI and Mary, Princess Royal and Countess of Harewood. Prince Edward, Duke of Windsor, was educated at Osborne House and the Royal Naval College, Dartmouth, and later attended Magdalen College, Oxford. Early Life

He later attended Magdalen College, Oxford, where he studied history and economics, and was a member of the Bullingdon Club. Marriages and Abdication

He was a member of the Grenadier Guards and was promoted to the rank of major in 1916. After the war, Prince Edward, Duke of Windsor, became the Prince of Wales and undertook a number of royal duties, including a tour of Canada and the United States in 1919. During World War II, the Duke of Windsor served as the Governor of the Bahamas, and was stationed in Nassau, where he was a friend of Mackenzie King and Harry S. Truman. After the war, the Duke of Windsor and Wallis Simpson lived in Paris, where they were friends of Coco Chanel and Christian Dior.

Titles, Styles, and Honours

Prince Edward, Duke of Windsor, was known by several titles and styles throughout his life, including His Royal Highness and His Majesty. He was created Prince of Wales in 1911, and was invested with the title on 13 July 1911, at Caernarfon Castle. He was also created Earl of Chester and Duke of Cornwall in 1911, and was known as the Duke of Rothesay in Scotland. The Duke of Windsor was a member of the Order of the Garter and the Order of the Thistle, and was awarded the Royal Victorian Chain in 1921.

Legacy
