History

Mykolaiv has a rich and varied history, dating back to the 18th century, when it was founded by Prince Grigory Potemkin and Catherine the Great as a major shipbuilding center, with the city's Mykolaiv Shipyard producing ships for the Russian Navy, including the Frigate and the Corvette.
