It is situated near the New York border, approximately 30 miles northwest of Williamsport, Pennsylvania, and is part of the Williamsport, Pennsylvania Metropolitan Statistical Area. The borough is nestled in the Endless Mountains region, near the Tioga River, and is close to the Pennsylvania Route 6 and U.S. Route 15 corridors. Mansfield is also near the Sullivan County, Pennsylvania line and the Lycoming County, Pennsylvania border.
