The city is home to the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL), a leading research and development center managed by California Institute of Technology (Caltech) for NASA. La Cañada Flintridge is also close to the Angeles National Forest and the San Gabriel River. The city is served by the La Cañada Unified School District and is near the Glendale Community College and Occidental College.

Geography

La Cañada Flintridge is situated in the southern part of the San Gabriel Valley and is bordered by the cities of Altadena, California to the west, Pasadena, California to the south, and Glendale, California to the east. The city is nestled in the foothills of the San Gabriel Mountains, which are part of the Transverse Ranges of Southern California. The Arroyo Seco runs through the city and is a tributary of the Los Angeles River, which flows into the Pacific Ocean near Long Beach, California. History

The area that is now La Cañada Flintridge was originally inhabited by the Tongva people, who were later displaced by Spanish settlers. The city was part of the Rancho La Cañada land grant, which was awarded to Jose Maria Verdugo in 1784 by King Charles III of Spain. The area remained a rural farming community until the late 19th century, when it began to attract wealthy residents from Los Angeles and Pasadena, California. The city was officially incorporated in 1976 and has since become a popular residential community, known for its high-quality schools, low crime rate, and scenic natural surroundings.
