Geography

History

The area now known as Homebush was originally inhabited by the Wangal people, an Aboriginal Australian tribe that lived along the Parramatta River. The suburb was named after the Homebush Estate, a large property that was established in the area in the early 19th century by the Underwood family. Homebush is also near the site of the Battle of Parramatta, a battle that took place in 1797 between the British and the Aboriginal Australians.
