The town is situated near the Fox River (Wisconsin), which flows into Lake Winnebago and is connected to the Lake Michigan watershed through the Fox River and the Wisconsin River. The area is also close to the University of Wisconsin–Oshkosh and Lawrence University, and is part of the Appleton, Wisconsin Metropolitan Area, which includes Menasha, Wisconsin, Kaukauna, Wisconsin, and Little Chute, Wisconsin.

Geography

The town of Grand Chute, Wisconsin is located in the eastern part of Outagamie County, Wisconsin, near the Outagamie County Regional Airport and the Appleton International Airport. The area is surrounded by the cities of Appleton, Wisconsin and Neenah, Wisconsin, and is close to the Horicon Marsh, a Wetland and Wildlife refuge managed by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. The town is also near the Kettle Moraine State Forest, a state forest that includes the Kettle Moraine Scenic Drive and the Ice Age Trail. The geography of the area is characterized by the presence of the Fox River (Wisconsin), which flows through the town and is connected to Lake Winnebago and the Wisconsin River, and eventually flows into Lake Michigan through the Green Bay.

History

The area that is now Grand Chute, Wisconsin was originally inhabited by the Ho-Chunk and Menominee Native American tribes, who were later displaced by European-American settlers. The town was founded in the mid-19th century, and was named after the Grand Chute, a Rapids on the Fox River (Wisconsin). The area was settled primarily by German-American and Dutch-American immigrants, who were attracted to the area by the presence of the Fox River (Wisconsin), which provided power for Sawmills and other industries. The town is also close to the Hortonville, Wisconsin, which was founded by Alonzo Horton, a Pioneer and Businessman who played a significant role in the development of the area.
