Introduction

History

The platform was launched in 2011 as the Google Art Project, in collaboration with Alte Nationalgalerie, Freer Gallery of Art, and National Museum of Korea. The initial launch featured 17 museums, including Uffizi Gallery, National Museum of Anthropology, Mexico, and Van Gogh Museum. Over the years, the platform has expanded to include over 2,000 institutions, such as Academy of Fine Arts, Vienna, Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, and Art Gallery of Ontario. The platform has also undergone several transformations, including a major redesign in 2016, which introduced new features and improved user experience, allowing users to explore The State Tretyakov Gallery, Pushkin Museum, and Russian Museum collections.
