Glen Ridge, New Jersey is a borough located in Essex County, New Jersey, approximately 15 miles west of New York City. The borough is situated near the Passaic River and is bordered by the Montclair Township to the north, Bloomfield, New Jersey to the east, Belleville, New Jersey to the southeast, and Orange, New Jersey to the southwest. Glen Ridge is also close to the New Jersey Turnpike and Interstate 280, providing easy access to major transportation routes. Geography

History

The area now known as Glen Ridge was originally settled by the Lenape Native American tribe, who were later displaced by European colonizers, including Henry Hudson and Peter Stuyvesant. The borough was officially incorporated in 1895, and was named after the glen, or valley, that runs through the area.
