Fenway Health. Located in the heart of Boston, Massachusetts, Fenway Health is a Community health center that has been providing comprehensive healthcare services to the local community, including LGBTQ+ individuals, HIV/AIDS patients, and Homeless populations, in collaboration with Boston Medical Center, Massachusetts General Hospital, and Brigham and Women's Hospital. As a major Healthcare provider, Fenway Health works closely with The Fenway Institute, AIDS Action Committee of Massachusetts, and National Coalition of LGBT Health to address the unique needs of its patients. With a strong commitment to Social justice and Health equity, Fenway Health has established partnerships with Harvard University, Tufts University, and University of Massachusetts Boston to advance its mission.

● History

Fenway Health was founded in 1971 by a group of LGBTQ+ activists, including Nancy Walker, Rita Hester, and Larry Kessler, who were instrumental in establishing the Gay and Lesbian Medical Association and the National LGBT Health Education Center. The organization has a long history of providing HIV/AIDS care and LGBTQ+-specific services, dating back to the early days of the AIDS epidemic in the 1980s, when it worked closely with ACT UP, GLAAD, and The Trevor Project. Over the years, Fenway Health has expanded its services to include Primary care, Mental health services, and Substance abuse treatment, in collaboration with Boston Public Health Commission, Massachusetts Department of Public Health, and Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration. Today, Fenway Health is a leading provider of LGBTQ+-competent care, working with The Human Rights Campaign, GLSEN, and PFLAG to promote Health equity and Social justice.

● Services

Fenway Health offers a wide range of services, including Primary care, Dental care, and Optometry services, in partnership with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts, Tufts Health Plan, and Harvard Pilgrim Health Care. The organization also provides HIV/AIDS care and LGBTQ+-specific services, such as Hormone replacement therapy and PrEP (Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis), in collaboration with Gilead Sciences, Merck & Co., and Janssen Pharmaceuticals. Additionally, Fenway Health offers Mental health services, including Counseling and Psychotherapy, as well as Substance abuse treatment programs, working with National Institute on Drug Abuse, Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, and American Psychological Association. The organization has conducted studies on HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment, LGBTQ+ health disparities, and Healthcare access for LGBTQ+ individuals, working with The Fenway Institute, Williams Institute, and Human Rights Campaign Foundation. Fenway Health has also partnered with Harvard University, Boston University, and University of Massachusetts Boston to conduct research on LGBTQ+ health issues, including Mental health and Substance abuse. Fenway Health is dedicated to providing Education and Training to Healthcare providers on LGBTQ+-competent care, in partnership with American Medical Association, American Nurses Association, and American Academy of Family Physicians. The organization offers Continuing education programs, Workshops, and Conferences on topics such as HIV/AIDS care, LGBTQ+ health disparities, and Cultural competence, working with The National LGBT Health Education Center, GLMA: Health Professionals Advancing LGBT Equality, and World Professional Association for Transgender Health. Fenway Health also provides Clinical rotations and Fellowships for Medical students and Residents, in collaboration with Harvard Medical School, Boston University School of Medicine, and Tufts University School of Medicine. Fenway Health operates several facilities in the Boston area, including its main Health center in the Fenway-Kenmore neighborhood, which is located near Fenway Park and Boston University. The organization also has Satellite clinics in Jamaica Plain and Hyde Park, and provides Mobile health services to Homeless populations, in collaboration with Boston Health Care for the Homeless Program and National Health Care for the Homeless Council. Fenway Health's facilities are designed to be LGBTQ+-friendly and Culturally competent, with Multilingual staff and Accessible facilities, working with The Joint Commission, National Committee for Quality Assurance, and Health Resources and Services Administration. The organization's facilities are also equipped with State-of-the-art technology and Evidence-based treatments, in partnership with American Hospital Association, American Medical Association, and National Institute of Standards and Technology.
