University of Texas Press

University of Texas Press is a major academic publisher and a division of the University of Texas at Austin. The press was established in 1950 under the direction of Frank H. Wardlaw, a pioneering figure in American university publishing who had previously helped found the University of South Carolina Press. A significant early achievement was the publication of John Graves's classic work, Goodbye to a River, in 1960. Throughout the latter half of the twentieth century, it expanded its scope significantly, developing internationally recognized lists in Latin American studies and film studies, and establishing the influential journal Latin American Research Review. As a division of the University of Texas at Austin, it operates under the auspices of the university's administration and reports to the Office of the Executive Vice President and Provost.
