TNT (band). TNT is a Norwegian hard rock band formed in Trondheim in 1982, achieving significant commercial success in the 1980s and 1990s. The band is renowned for its blend of melodic hard rock with technical heavy metal prowess and the powerful vocal range of its frontmen. Despite numerous lineup changes and periods of hiatus, TNT has maintained a dedicated international following and continues to record and perform.

History

The band was founded by guitarist Ronni Le Tekrø and drummer Diesel Dahl, initially featuring vocalist Dag Ingebrigtsen and bassist Steinar Eikum. Their self-titled debut album, released in 1982, established their presence in the Scandinavian rock scene. A major turning point came in 1984 with the recruitment of American singer Tony Harnell, whose arrival coincided with the band signing to the major label Vertigo Records. This era produced their breakthrough album, Knights of the New Thunder, which gained them popularity in Japan and Europe. The follow-up, Tell No Tales (1987), spawned the hit single "10,000 Lovers (In One)" and solidified their status, particularly in Norway where it topped the charts. The 1990s saw the release of albums like Intuition (1989) and Realized Fantasies (1992), but internal tensions led to Harnell's first departure in 1994. After a hiatus, the band reunited with Harnell in 1996 and released Firefly and Transistor. Harnell left again in 2006 and was replaced by British singer Tony Mills. The Mills-fronted era produced albums such as The New Territory and Atlantis. In 2013, Mills departed and Tony Harnell returned for a third stint, which included the album XIII. Harnell's final departure in 2017 led to another reunion with original vocalist Dag Ingebrigtsen for the 2018 album The New Territory. The band's most recent studio album is Christmas with TNT (2023).

They won the Spellemannprisen (the Norwegian equivalent of the Grammy Award) in the rock category for their album Tell No Tales in 1987. They were also awarded the Spellemannprisen for the album Intuition in 1989. In 2004, guitarist Ronni Le Tekrø received the prestigious Buddy Award from the Norwegian Musicians' Union for his contributions to music. TNT was inducted into the Norwegian Rock Hall of Fame in 2010, cementing their legacy as one of Norway's most successful rock exports.
