Diplomatic career

Menon joined the Indian Foreign Service in 1972, embarking on a career that spanned over three decades across crucial postings. His early assignments included positions in the Ministry of External Affairs and diplomatic postings in Vienna, Colombo, and Tokyo. He served as India's High Commissioner to Sri Lanka during a sensitive period in the mid-1990s, dealing with the aftermath of the Assassination of Rajiv Gandhi and the complexities of the Sri Lankan Civil War.
