Sherri Shepherd. Sherri Evonne Shepherd is an American television host, actress, comedian, and author. She gained national prominence as a co-host on the popular daytime talk show ''The View'', a role for which she won a Daytime Emmy Award. Shepherd has built a diverse career spanning stand-up comedy, sitcoms, film, and her own syndicated talk program, ''Sherri''.

Early life and education

She was born in Chicago and raised in the city's South Side neighborhood. Her mother worked as a clerical worker while her father was a Chicago Police Department officer. Shepherd attended Lindblom Technical High School before pursuing higher education at the University of Illinois at Chicago. Her initial career path was in legal secretarial work, but she soon shifted her focus to stand-up comedy, performing at clubs across the Midwestern United States.

Career

Shepherd's breakthrough came with a recurring role on the NBC sitcom Suddenly Susan, starring Brooke Shields. This led to a starring role on the WB network series Less than Perfect, where she played the character Ramona Platt. She became a household name after joining the panel of ABC's ''The View'' in 2007, engaging in daily discussions on current events and popular culture. During her tenure, she also served as a guest host for the ''Wheel of Fortune'' and appeared as a contestant on ''Dancing with the Stars''. Her film credits include roles in ''Precious'', ''One for the Money'', and ''Woodlawn''. In 2013, she launched her own daytime talk show, The Sherri Shepherd Show, which later evolved into the nationally syndicated ''Sherri'' in 2022. Personal life

Shepherd was married to Jeff Tarpley, with whom she has a son. Following their divorce, she married television writer Lamar Sally in 2011; their marriage ended in 2014. A devout Christian, Shepherd has been open about her faith and her experiences with in vitro fertilization. She has also been a vocal advocate for diabetes awareness, having been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. Shepherd resides in New York City and is actively involved with various charitable organizations.
