History

The area's name is of Old English origin, suggesting early settlement. For centuries, Rusholme was a rural township within the historic county of Lancashire, centered around Rusholme Green. Its transformation began in the 19th century with the arrival of the Manchester South District and Altrincham Railway, improving connectivity. The construction of large villas for wealthy industrialists, such as those in the Victoria Park estate, marked its initial suburban growth. An extensive network of Stagecoach Manchester bus services runs along Wilmslow Road, including high-frequency routes like the 142 and 143, connecting Rusholme to Manchester Piccadilly, Fallowfield, and Didsbury.
