Republic Polytechnic. It is the first educational institution in Singapore to fully adopt the problem-based learning approach across all its diploma programmes. Established in 2002, it moved to its permanent campus in Woodlands, Singapore in 2007. History

The establishment was announced by then Deputy Prime Minister Tony Tan as part of the government's plan to increase tertiary education participation. It began operations in 2002 at a temporary site in Tanglin, Singapore, sharing grounds with the former Ministry of Education (Singapore) headquarters. The institution was officially opened in 2003 by Lee Hsien Loong, who was then the Minister for Finance. The move to its purpose-built campus in Woodlands, Singapore in 2007 marked a significant expansion, providing modern facilities for its distinctive pedagogical model. It has since forged key collaborations with entities like the Singapore Institute of Technology for degree pathways.

Campus

The campus is situated on a 20-hectare site in Woodlands, Singapore, near the Admiralty MRT station. Its architecture, designed by the Japanese firm Nikken Sekkei, features a distinctive "floating terraces" concept with extensive green roofs and open learning spaces. Key facilities include the Woodlands Regional Library, which is co-located within the campus, and the Republic Cultural Centre. The Sports and Recreation Centre houses an indoor sports hall, gymnasium, and swimming complex. The campus layout encourages interaction and is integrated with the surrounding Woodlands Waterfront park.

Academic programmes

It offers a wide range of full-time diploma programmes across various schools, including the School of Engineering, School of Information Technology, and School of Applied Science. Specialized centres like the Centre for Enterprise and Communication and the School of Technology for the Arts deliver industry-focused curricula. Many programmes are developed in consultation with major companies such as IBM, Siemens, and Rolls-Royce Holdings. Students can also pursue elective modules and participate in exchange programmes with international partners like the University of Queensland.

Pedagogy

The cornerstone of its educational philosophy is the one-day-one-problem, problem-based learning framework. In this model, students work in small teams to solve a realistic scenario related to their field of study, guided by facilitators. Student life is vibrant with over 100 clubs and societies under the purview of the Republic Polytechnic Students' Union.
