Polish National road 60. Route description

Beginning at its western terminus in Wejherowo, the route heads southeast, passing near the town of Luzino before entering the scenic landscapes of Kashubia. It traverses the heart of the Kashubian Lake District, skirting the southern shores of Lake Wdzydze near the village of Wdzydze Tucholskie. The road then proceeds through the major regional center of Kościerzyna, a key junction with other routes like DK20 and DK211. Continuing eastward, it passes through areas near Skarszewy and Lubichowo before concluding at a junction with the major DK22 on the outskirts of Starogard Gdański. The route primarily consists of single-carriageway, with varying speed limits and traffic conditions through the towns and villages along its path.

The road's alignment follows historical trade and communication paths through Pomerania that date back centuries. Its formal establishment as a numbered national road occurred in 1986 under the Polish People's Republic, as part of a broader reclassification of the road network. Following the administrative reforms of 1999, which created the modern Pomeranian Voivodeship, the road's maintenance and oversight fell under the jurisdiction of the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways (GDDKiA). Significant modernization projects have been undertaken since the early 2000s, including bypasses and surface improvements, particularly around Kościerzyna and Lubichowo, to enhance safety and capacity.

From west to east, National Road 60 intersects with several key transport arteries. In Wejherowo, it originates at a junction with DK6, part of the European route E28 leading to Gdańsk and Szczecin. Near Luzino, it crosses the Pomeranian Metropolitan Railway line. Within Kościerzyna, it forms a crucial intersection with DK20 (from Stargard to Gdynia) and DK211 (to Chojnice). Further east, it meets local routes providing access to Skarszewy and Zblewo. Its eastern terminus is a direct junction with DK22, which connects Kostrzyn nad Odrą with the Kaliningrad Oblast border, near the city of Starogard Gdański.

Future developments

Planned upgrades focus on improving road safety and travel times. The General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways has outlined projects for constructing additional bypasses, including a long-discussed bypass for the town of Skarszewy. There are also proposals to upgrade certain sections to a higher technical standard, potentially with partial grade separation at busier intersections.
