North Point station

North Point station is an underground MTR station located in the North Point area of Hong Kong Island, Hong Kong. It is a key stop on the Island line, situated between Fortress Hill station and Quarry Bay station. The station primarily serves the dense residential and commercial districts of eastern Hong Kong Island and provides important interchange facilities with local surface transport.

History

The station opened on 31 May 1985 as part of the eastern extension of the Island line from Chai Wan station to Admiralty station. Its construction was integral to improving public transport links for the rapidly developing eastern districts of Hong Kong Island. The station was built on land reclaimed from the former North Point Wharf, a historic cargo and passenger ferry pier. During the planning stages of the MTR, the area was identified as a critical node due to its high population density. The station has undergone several minor refurbishments to handle increasing passenger numbers, particularly with the development of large-scale residential complexes like City Garden.

North Point station is constructed on two main levels. The concourse level houses customer service centres, Octopus card add-value machines, and retail shops, and provides access to multiple exits leading to key surface locations such as King's Road. The platform level is located one level below, featuring two opposing side platforms serving the two-track configuration of the Island line. Platform 1 serves trains heading towards Kennedy Town station, while Platform 2 serves trains bound for Chai Wan station. A dedicated bus terminus and tram stop are integrated into the station's exit structures, facilitating seamless transfers.
