Newcastle Falcons is a professional rugby union club based in Newcastle upon Tyne, England, competing in the top-flight Premiership Rugby. The club was founded in 1877 as Gosforth Football Club and adopted its current name in 1996 following the dawn of professionalism in the sport. Under the ownership of Sir John Hall and later guidance of Rob Andrew, the Falcons quickly became a major force, winning the Premiership Rugby title in 1998.
