Initially held at the Cate School in Carpinteria, the institution moved to its permanent home on the historic Miraflores estate in Santa Barbara in 1951, a property once owned by the philanthropist Bernard Hoffmann. Throughout its history, the academy has been guided by significant artistic leaders, including longtime director of opera Marilyn Horne, whose association profoundly shaped its vocal program.
