Lệ Thủy

Lệ Thủy is a rural district located within the central coastal province of Quảng Bình in Vietnam. Geography

Lệ Thủy occupies a strategic position in central Vietnam, bordered by the East Sea to the east and sharing a western frontier with the mountainous areas adjacent to Laos. History

The area of present-day Lệ Thủy has been inhabited since ancient times, with archaeological evidence linking it to the Champa civilization before later incorporation into Đại Việt. During the Trịnh–Nguyễn War, the region was part of the Đàng Trong territory under the Nguyễn lords. In the 19th century, it was formally organized under the Nguyễn dynasty administration. The district was a crucial logistical area during the First Indochina War and the Vietnam War, situated near sections of the Ho Chi Minh Trail and experiencing significant conflict during events like the Easter Offensive. Post-1975, it was integrated into the unified Socialist Republic of Vietnam.
