Indiana Daily Student. It is the official, independent student newspaper serving the Indiana University Bloomington campus and the surrounding community. First published in 1867 as *The Indiana Student*, it is one of the oldest and most continuously published student newspapers in the United States. History

The publication traces its origins to 1867 when it began as a monthly literary magazine called *The Indiana Student*. It evolved into a weekly newspaper by the 1880s and adopted the name *Indiana Daily Student* in 1966 with the shift to daily publication. For much of its history, it was housed in the iconic Ernie Pyle Hall, named for the famed Pulitzer Prize-winning World War II correspondent and Indiana University alumnus Ernie Pyle. The newspaper has chronicled pivotal events in campus and national history, including student protests during the Vietnam War era, the tenure of university president Herman B Wells, and the athletic successes of Indiana Hoosiers teams under coaches like Bob Knight and Branch McCracken. In 2014, it transitioned from a daily print schedule to a primarily digital-first model with a weekly print edition.

The editorial and business operations are managed entirely by students, with oversight from professional staff within Indiana University Student Media. Key content sections include News, focused on Indiana University Bloomington administration, student government via the Indiana University Student Association, and local issues involving the City of Bloomington and Monroe County; Sports, providing coverage of Indiana Hoosiers athletics within the Big Ten Conference and NCAA; Arts and Culture, featuring reviews and profiles related to the Jacobs School of Music, the IU Auditorium, and the Fine Arts; and Opinion, featuring editorials and columns.
