History

The Hamm Luxembourg American Cemetery and Memorial is located here, serving as the final resting place for over 5,000 American servicemen, including General George S. Patton, who commanded the Third Army. The cemetery was established by the American Battle Monuments Commission following the liberation of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg by Allied forces. Before the war, the locality was primarily agricultural, but its proximity to Luxembourg City led to gradual development.
