In 2009, the team relocated to Springfield, Massachusetts, becoming the Springfield Armor and serving as the exclusive affiliate of the New Jersey Nets (later Brooklyn Nets). A significant transition occurred in 2014 when the franchise was purchased by an ownership group led by Steve Jbara and moved to Michigan, rebranding as the Grand Rapids Drive and aligning with the Detroit Pistons. Following the 2020-21 season, the Denver Nuggets purchased the franchise, renaming it the Grand Rapids Gold and establishing a new single-affiliate partnership, marking the team's fourth major identity shift.
