History

The concept originated from discussions within The Walt Disney Company in the mid-1990s, seeking to expand its theme park resort offerings. The company partnered with the renowned Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri to construct its first vessels. The inaugural ship, named after the classic animated film *Fantasia*, entered service in 1998, departing from its first home port in Port Canaveral. A significant expansion occurred with the ordering of two new ships in 2016, followed by a major strategic move in 2023 with the acquisition of the partially completed *Global Dream* hull from the bankrupt MV Werften shipyard.

Fleet

The operational fleet consists of five ships, with three additional vessels under development. The original two ships, inspired by the Art Deco style of classic ocean liners like the RMS Queen Mary, were joined by two larger vessels featuring innovative attractions such as the AquaDuck water coaster. The newest ship, which entered service in 2022, introduced the first Disney-themed attraction at sea. The three future ships, including the massive vessel based on the *Global Dream* hull, are slated for delivery between 2025 and 2026, with one planned to be homeported in Singapore.

Destinations and itineraries

Itineraries primarily sail from ports across North America, including Port Canaveral, Miami, San Diego, and Vancouver. Popular routes include voyages to The Bahamas, the Caribbean, and the Mexican Riviera. The line also offers seasonal Alaska cruises departing from Vancouver, as well as transatlantic crossings and special itineraries to destinations like Europe, visiting ports such as Barcelona and Copenhagen, and New Zealand. Longer voyages, including Panama Canal transits, are periodically offered.

Onboard experience

The onboard experience is distinguished by immersive Disney-themed entertainment and meticulous service. Each ship features Broadway-style theatrical productions based on properties like *The Lion King* and *Frozen*, and deck parties with characters like Mickey Mouse. Dining is rotational, with guests experiencing different themed restaurants. Adult-exclusive areas, extensive youth clubs organized by age group, and character meet-and-greets are central features. Staterooms are designed with families in mind, often including split bathrooms.

Private island destinations

The line operates two exclusive private island destinations in The Bahamas. The first, located in the Abaco Islands, was developed as a dedicated port of call and features family beaches, water play areas, and dining venues. A second, highly anticipated island destination, situated on the island of Eleuthera, is currently under development and scheduled to open in 2024. These destinations are designed to extend the themed experience ashore with controlled, curated environments.
