Early life and education

Born in Bangkok, he attended the prestigious Triam Udom Suksa School before pursuing higher education in engineering. He earned a bachelor's degree in civil engineering from Chulalongkorn University, a leading institution in Thailand. For his graduate studies, he received a scholarship to attend the University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign in the United States, where he obtained both a master's degree and a doctorate in civil engineering. Political career

His entry into national politics came through an appointment as an advisor to the Ministry of Transport during the government of Abhisit Vejjajiva. His technical expertise led to his appointment as Minister of Transport in the cabinet of Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra in 2012. In this role, he oversaw major projects, including expansions of the Bangkok Mass Transit System and initiatives within the State Railway of Thailand. Following the 2014 Thai coup d'état by the National Council for Peace and Order, he was removed from office and later became a vocal critic of military rule, positioning himself as an independent figure advocating for democratic restoration and pragmatic governance.

In the 2022 Bangkok gubernatorial election, he ran as an independent candidate, securing a landslide victory over competitors from major parties like the Palang Pracharath Party and the Democratic Party. His campaign, centered on the slogan "Chadchart for All," promised to make Bangkok a "city for life" and resonated widely across diverse districts such as Chatuchak and Bang Kapi. Upon taking office at Bangkok City Hall, he became the first directly elected governor since the suspension of local elections after the 2014 coup, marking a significant return to electoral politics in the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration.
