The institution originated in 1900 as the "Boston Home for Incurables," established to provide long-term care. It was later renamed the "Faulkner Hospital" in 1910 in honor of its benefactor, George Faulkner. A significant merger occurred in 1980 when the Faulkner Hospital joined with the Boston Hospital for Women and the Peter Bent Brigham Hospital to form the renowned Brigham and Women's Hospital.
