This complex, once the largest of its kind globally, supplied coal gas to much of London until its closure in the 1970s. The site's history is deeply intertwined with the London Docklands, with the adjacent Royal Docks facilitating the import of materials. During the Second World War, the gasworks were a prime target for the Blitz due to their strategic importance.
